Re: AVS and A509s Compared

I also have experience with both types. I've run the A509 (195/60-15) on my
'67 GTV for years. I'm probably on my 3rd or 4th set. I also have a '62
Giulietta Spider set up for Autocrossing that I use the same size AVSi. I
can also swap wheels between the two (it's called an 8-wheel tire rotation).
;=) Basically, whichever car has a race date coming up gets the Panasports
with the AVSi's on them. My GTV got the Larry Dickman/Tom Sahines front brake
upgrade. With GTV6 calipers on a '67 GTV, I can stop the car in an amazingly
short time. With the AVSi's, braking appears to be almost unlimited. I can
get the A509's to lock up. Obviously, there are limits, but the AVSi's just
continue to astound me. There is also a subtle difference in turn-in. The
AVSi has a crisper turn-in, but the A509's are still reasonably benign. In
parking lots, the A509 actually has a higher steering effort than the AVSi.
The A509 is cheaper, and it's a good all-around tire. I think I will get
AVSi's to replace the A509's when they wear out. I've been quite happy with
the A509's on a daily driver, but I just won't push the car to it's limits
on them.
