going back through some very old (and stale) postings...
alfa@domain.elided is the main submission address for the list.
alfa-digest@domain.elided is an alias which redirects to alfa@domain.elided
what happens after mail reaches alfa@domain.elided is that it disappears into
the maw of a complex mass of perl scripts known as majordomo, which does
unspeakable things to them and then spits them out as individual postings
and as digests.
