Re: removal and disassembly of spider mirror

I fitted the pair of electric mirrors from the '82 parts car to
FrankenSpider, without hooking up the electrics. Since the metal
backs of the mirrors were painted to match the '82 red and this car is
silver, I had to do something as they looked awful.

To take them apart, I pried the rubber trim ring between the backing and
the surround out. Work carefully and don't tear it. Then the metal dish
snaps into the surround with a couple of little protrusions on the upper
and lower edges ... just gently pry the sides inwards a touch with a wide
blade like a scraper and the backs come right off. Paint and reinstall as
the reverse of the removal procedure.

I didn't hook up the electrics, I just use these mirrors because they hold
their position well and I had them "in stock".
