removal and disassembly of spider mirror

The driver's side mirror on my 90 Spider is rusting badly.  I bought a new 
mirror cover and had it painted.  Now I need to know how to disassemble the 
mirror to replace the front cover. Does anyone know how to do this?  Do I 
have to remove the entire mirror, thus having to remove door panel, etc..?  
Any help is appreciated!
