AROC Competition Rules Question
- Subject: AROC Competition Rules Question

I think I mentioned once previously that I have been told by the
appropriate contact within AROC that my non-Alfa car is not welcome at
AROC track events, because of its T-top roof. At least, not without a
roll bar installed.
Because of this, and the fact that I am presently 'between Alfas', I
let my membership lapse.
I recently learned that there are at least two cars with roofs
identical to mine, which regularly participate in AROC events, without
roll bars. According to the AROC Competition Chair, this should not be
allowed under the Competition Rules.
A few additional points;
* I'm loathe to rain on anyone's parade. Folks are having fun in
similar cars at AROC events, and I'd re-up immediately if I could
participate too.
* I'd also hate to see an incident with AROC's insurer because of
this issue.
* There appears to be a disconnect in the administration of events,
if un-approved cars are running. I don't know who's the left hand
or who's the right, but they aren't talking.
* AFAIK, AROC's ruling on this issue is stricter than any other
sanctioning body, save NHRA ( and then only for sub-12 second
cars ). All other bodies consider T-top cars 'closed', for roll
bar purposes.
* I have a clarification of the rule from the appropriate source,
but that rule doesn't seem to be enforced everywhere.
* I tried lobbying for a change in the ruling, without success.
( Provided references from folks who have rolled the car, without
crushing the top. Pointed out that the sunroof on my 164 was
almost as big as the opening provided by the T-tops. )
So, my question. What would you do if you wanted to drive a T-top car
in AROC events?
Sorry for the length, and thanks for any help. Private replies are
fine, if you like.
