	It sounds like the clutch disks (two) and the pressure plates(2) may 
have some rust on them causing them to stick. The clutch fork may also either 
be very worn at the ball socket or it has slipped off of it  when you worked 
on the clutch slave.....this can be a difficult install because it can be 
hard to tell if the fork is in the proper position on the ball/throwout 
bearing..the engagement area of the bearing can rotate and can cause the fork 
to only be partially connected.
	The whirring maybe from the input bearings inside the intermediate 
flange. If the car has sat for a while, moisture may have built up in the 
gearbox causing a little bit of surface rust on the bearing surfaces. Also, 
check with a stethoscope ( or long dowel to the ear) the input bearing in the 
front of the clutch housing that one is a very small needle bearing. There is 
also a spacer assembly in the front part of the clutch housing that preloads 
that needle bearing that can work itself loose and rattle.
