Though I live in Virginia Beach (courtesy of Uncle Sam), my legal residence 
is still Texas.  When I took my Verde off the road for a few months to 
restore it I had to mail the plates back to Texas before the liability 
insurance could be dropped.  When I re-registered the car I think I paid the 
full amount for a year (only $51) rather than it being pro-rated, but not 
sure.  Did have to get new plates.  I think I may have paid a small fee for 
the new plates.
