Head Gasket Replacement?

Last weekend I replace the head gaskets on one of my
Milanos. According to the workshop manual I should
not torque the heads to spec with the new gasket instead
they should be torqued to 57.84 ft.lbs and then after
1000 klms should be retorqued to spec.

Does this apply for a broken in engine? I assume that
that applies only when the engine is rebuilt, right?

The reason I ask is because I torqued to 57.84 and
not to the full spec, and it seems that I have some
oil making its way out of the engine and onto my
headers ....can I assume that this is most likely
caused by inadequate head bolt torquing? Needless
to say I'm gonna pop open the covers and see what's
up....

Any input from you all?

Dimitri,
Toronto
