Your preceptions are correct. The other answers are: nothing, no and no.

I'm always amazed to read the hysterical articles in mags like Classic and
Sports Car re: unleaded fuel and the end of the classic car. It's just like
the Y2K crisis and maybe even more overblown!

Now I know British steel ain't what it used to be but just what DID they
make those valve seats out of?

There has been very little done here to make cars tolerate the new fuels. I
have never done anything to my cars. The Duetto has been running just fine
on this diet gas since I've owned it (1988). The old SPICA FI pump doesn't
even mind it. It has 6+ years on it under my foot and it was a used pump
when I got it to replace the leaky Webers that weren't legal here anyway.

About the only real problem I have heard was when they reformulated diesel
a few years ago and it ate older diesel injection pumps for lunch. That had
nothing to do with lead in gas obviously.
