The Mille Miglia 1999 thread . . .

Hi all!

First of all, I want to thank all (both on- and off-line) who
complemented me on my story and English.

Thankyou!

Secondly, there are, I think, more than a thousand points where you can
see the MM at its best.

Those I described were from a "northern" point of view.
We were staying in "Moniga del Garda", and Florence is some 300km's from
there. The MM roadbook (which changes from year to year) said the
drivers will pas through F. around noon. So we got up at 8, had a quick
breakfast and drove off (I just _LOVE_ the Italian autostrada :)
We did not know the route, and just drove to the centre of F., there I
heard some havock (an old 8cilinder revving) and knew where to go :)
Here we joined the MM and were soon were I wanted to be . . . . . .:
The "PASSO DELLA FUTA" :)))

Douwe Heida -an experienced participant- who, in 1998 drove his
'33 Alfa Romeo 8c 2600 Monza, starting #116 says:
"The two passes 'passo della futta' and 'passo della raticosa'
are the best bits of the MM, both as driver and spectator."

He also says:"Avoid Rome; It's a too busy, too regulated, too boring,
too hot, too thirsty, etc. stage of the MM."

To Take pictures on Friday, you'll have to go to Siena (or more 'Rome'
bound, so unless your wife likes to travel, Dave Pratt, you're going
to miss it all :(

Oh, I was a bit to optimistic:
The 75(milano) engine may be just finished 1st week of may (anyone got
some tips on how to run-in a newly rebuilt engine?)
The Alfetta might let me down, after 6 years (non-continuously) duty
with no maintenance, and a 200000+km engine I'm expecting break downs.
But who knows...:)

See ya!
