'86 Spider won't start

My dad has done the unthinkable by leaving his Bosch L-jetronic Spider 
sit in the garage for the last few years.  He started it infrequently 
and this spring it refuses to start (it cranks over fine but is either 
not getting fuel or spark).  We've consulted the service manual but it's 
lengthy list of potential problems is quite daunting.  Does anyone have 
suggestions on where to begin?
