Re: Slow to go

My wife's 164L showed similar symptoms Randy in the two autocrosses I've
entered. Its bad enough that I think the AROC should reclassify the
Pre-1994 164 automatics.
The car is pretty quick off the line from stop lights compared to most
general transportation without really touching the accellerator; but it
can't be made to go really quick for the first few feet.
I presume that reving it to 3000 rpm and then slipping it from neutral
to drive is a no no. <G> I've not had the guts to do that to my wife's
car. If the wheels are turned off center, I've noticed they will spin a
bit; but I don't know of what use that trait could be.
When autocrossing, I've tried leaving it in first until the rev limiter
was an issue and then manually shifting to second. This keeps it from
upshifting too early which it wants to do when you lift for a second.
The 1994LS automatic's electronically controled "Sport" mode prevents
this quick upshift. There's also no 'torque steer' discernable as the
car goes through the gear change and the power goes off for just a
fraction of a second.
