Commuters vs. Alfa Romeo

Hello all,
My two cents on the "do I drive the Alfa 150 miles round trip?" debate comes
down to my experience trying to make my P911s a daily driver. Living in the
Northwest made it hell in the rainy months (Dec 31 through Dec 30). The rain,
accompanied with rocks, idiots, flying debris, and perpetual darkness (a year
long gloom, at least it feels that way with the gray skies) made for a
miserable time. I enjoyed sitting in my 911, however, I always felt guilty.
Although the 911 was galvanized and virtually rust proof I had a deep sense of
regret putting a car through the gauntlet of wetness. When it gets icy here,
or snows a bit, the county road crews sand the roads. At least they don't use
salt, but wait, the bad part about the sand on the road is that they don't
clean it up until spring. Therefore, when driving behind another automobile or
semi truck, I was virtually sand blasted. The nose of my car had became
speckled with millions and millions of teeny, tiny chips...argghhhh.

My solution after selling the Porsche and buying the Spider. I bought an old
Ford (I prefer the acronym Found On Road Dead rather than First On Race Day)
Pickup truck that sits high, has no bells and whistles and could care less if
Fanny Mae runs over a 2x4 and kicks it up into my grill...The commute doesn't
get to me as much anymore having the knowledge that the Spider is under a nice
warm quilt in a heated garage. It is much more enjoyable to come home and whip
her down with a diaper than plan the next trip to the paint shop.

For what it's worth and understandably late for the posting...
Todd
