Re: Datsuns and Alfas (and others)

In AD7-569 Andrew Watry mentions the Road & Track track test/comparison of the
main small-bore Trans-Am competitors, including the BRE Datsun, BMW 2002, and
Horst Kwech's 1750. "Someone may know which issue that was in-"

It was January 1972. It is in the Brooklands Books "Road & Track on Alfa
Romeo" series, the 1971-76 period, which also includes a Berlina/BMW
2002tii/Mazda RX-2 Comparison Test and an Alfetta GT/Porsche 924/Datsun 280Z
Comparison Test as well as a slew of others starting with the transom-tail
1750 Spider and including a lot of other material which is useful for
understanding Alfa Romeo in context, such as a major sidebar on Alfa Romeo's
problems, production and predictions from a 1971 perspective. Company
production and US sales 1966-70 are given, with a US peak of 1,857 sales in
1969 against 107,000 cars produced. One could go on, but suffice it to say
that it is a useful compilation for those interested in what it was about
thirty years ago.
