Milano Hood Latch

Michael,
I have seen a similar problem on a non Alfa car.
The hood release handle wasn't broken but it still refused to open the hood.
The problem was gunk on the latch mechanism. I had the wife lift up gently
on the hood
while I pulled the release and it lifted right up. What happend was the gunk
on the
mechanism prevented the hood from popping up so that every time I pulled the
release handle
and let go, the latch closed back over the catch loop  before I got around
to the front
of the car to lift the hood.
Lots of WD-40 and repeated two person open/closings solved the problem.
You will obviously need to fix the handle as well.
