I get the best of both worlds with my UNIX system whose mailer has a "burst"
function which converts the digests back into individual messages. Of course
I still lose the immediacy of the non-digest format, but my work is less
interrupted that way. For you UNIX people out there, my mailer is exmh (mh and
xmh have the same feature).
