Re: injection- history here... a little...

Come on Eric, don't forget Lucas!

Alex Jenner commented "The 330 P3 had a greatly improved chassis and a Lucas
fuel injection replacing the six webers"

Was this the same (or related) mechanical FI system as used in the Triumph 6
cylinder TR6 and 2.5PI?? From memory (an ex workmate had one which took him
some time to sort out...) it has a shuttle valve based regulation system
driven by the fuel pressure, regulated by vacuum. Not known for reliability,
economy or good metering (typically rough idle), but effective at producing
power. Weakest link was the high pressure fuel pump which tended to
overheat. When out of tune capable of pumping LOTS of fuel into the engine.

Not as elegant or sophisticated as SPICA, also suffered from problems with
uninformed people fiddling with it. Its metering accuracy can be be judged
by the fact that Triumph used it on Euro spec cars, but replaced it by carbs
on a detuned engine in the case of the TR6 in order to meet USA emissions
regs!

Didn't some of the GTAm use a Lucas system?

Dellorto carbs, just like Alfa knew were best before USA emissions
legislators got in the way.. :-))
