shipping an Alfa

Anyone have a good experience shipping a car across the US?  A potential
buyer is looking into shipping a car of mine from California to Georgia, but
can't find quotes for less than about $1000.  Someone else said he'd heard
of prices in the $500 range, but couldn't recall the specific shipper.  Any
help appreciated.
