Water Pump Woes Wesolved

After closer inspection and cleaning of the old water pump, I found that the
alloy ring on its nose (which I had assumed to be part of the pulley
casting) had in fact been pressed on to the old pump to solve the very
problem with fan clearance that I was experiencing. A few blows to the
center of the old pump spindle with a hammer, and the alloy spacer ring was
separated from the old pump.

So, a big Homer Simpson "Doh!" from me.
