2 liter cam timing

Greetings,

I am putting the engine back together out of a '76 spider and am
considering changing the stock cam setup slightly. From the chart in
centerline's catalog it looks like it might be good to do the following...

After verifying the stock settings: which are supposedly 114 degree lobe
center on both cams as this is a non-catalyst 76 model.

Advance the intake cam to a 102 degree lobe center and retard the exhaust
cam to 102 degree lobe center.

Does this sound like a good setup for a stock 2 liter (9:1 pistons) with
40mm webers and the older 2 piece exhaust manifold? Exhaust is stock except
for ansa rear section. Any input from the experienced will be appreciated.

Another thing I notice from the chart is that up until 1980 on these cams,
19 and 21 thousandths valve clearance was used, and then it went to 17 and
19. It looks like this increased the duration by about 14 degrees on both
cams. Should I go with the tighter clearances? Was the duration the only
reason for the change?

Thanks in advance

P.S. I also wonder if going with the hydraulic variable valve unit on the
intake wouldn't be a good thing. It seems to work really well on my '83. But
that's for another time.
