Another 91 164 ABS light problem

On my 91 164 S, I have a "semi-similar" problem. If I start the car and 
drive off normally, the ABS light will come on and stay on for the rest of 
the trip; instead, if I rev up the engine as soon as it's started, and the 
ABS light will go out before the rest of the warning lights, (including the 
battery light), then it will stay out.

I definitely do not want to rev up a cold engine right at the start....any 
suggestions on what it could be?
