I don't call this any kind of official test, but I recall vividly seeing
between 125 and 130 mph on my long lost and lamented 1971 1750 Spider
Veloce way back in 1975. I couldn't tell you how accurate that
speedometer was, and the car was set up with a cam kit. I do know that it
was a heck of a lot faster and more responsive than my stock '78 2000
Spider was.
And I don't know what the '79/'82 is going to be like with its Bosch
injection system, taller gearing and high compression pistons. It
probably needs a bit more cam to match the 1750's performance at least,
but I don't know whether that will be possible and still meet the
emissions certification testing.
