Tires...again!

Hello all,
I just got back from Phil's in Santa Cruz...had a complete brake
job done...ouch! That stuff expensive. The only problem is that I found
that my tires are way more worn than I thought (and full of nails). So,
I thought I'd ask about tires, since its been about a month since anyone
has asked...and the cup holder thing has relatively quieted down.
Right now I have Pirelli P700Z's on my Verde. They are 205/50s. I am
happy with the size, but unhappy with how fast Pirellis wear. So I am
looking for a better tires. And since I just spent all that money on
brakes, I am also looking for inexpensive tires. I think I remember Dug
Sedan (it's spelled like that in my head!) said something about
Bridgestone RE71s...but the Tirerack seems to be outa stock on these.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ted

- --by the way, I don't use a cup holder, I do it the American way, I hold
the fricken cup between my legs, so it spills everywhere when I shift.
Its not bad though since, if you are in the Bay Area, its not coffee,
its Jamba Juice...whatever.
