re: Milano Sport springs

Hi Alfisti,

Regarding Chip Mutza's questions about Milano springs: Do it as a
system. I have an 87 Milano Gold. First I got the Koni's. That was
very nice. Then I upgraded to 15 x 7 Stilauto wheels and 205/50-15 Yoko
509's. They stuck great but made the car a bit hairy since the adhesion
limits were higher. Also the tires rubbed front and rear. I then added
the Ricambi SuperSport rear springs. This lowered the back 7/8's inch
and stopped the rear tires from rubbing. But now the car was
understeering like crazy. I then added the front and rear swaybars.
This curtailed some of the lean but the car now really understeered ( i
had it on the streets of willow springs and on the skid pad ). Finally I
installed the SuperSport tortion bars. This stopped almost all tire
scraping and eliminated the understeer. The car is now neutral with a
small tendency toward oversteer. The down side is that it is stiff as a
board. It is fantastic on the freeway but a little annoying around town.
It doesn't lean at all. Period.

I set up the car for time trials, but it then became my commuter car.
Something a little softer would be better. Also the limits of the
vehicle are higher than necessary, causing me to test the vehicle
constantly ( which is fun but not too legal). I have been debating about
returning the suspension to stock when my current tires wear out, with
the exception of the sway bars. If so I may sell my Stilauto wheels.

My suggestion, if you want it stiffer and don't like the lean, is to
stick with the Koni's ( I hear Bilsteins are a lot stiffer ). Buy the
Sport (not the supersport) springs and tortion bars, then decide later if
you need the sway bars. I would stick with a 6" wide wheel so you don't
have to worry about the tires rubbing the fender lips. And of course
great tires.

Just remember, it's a system so you must upgrade as a system.
