Help for an Italian relative (Fiat)

Hi

Can anyone help diagnose a Fiat Uno with a Bosch trottle body injection?

The car is suddenly consuming much more fuel than usual.  What are the
possible faults?

- - I checked the O2 sensor and it seems to read really low - no cycling of
voltage
- - The spark plugs are clean
- - The temp sensors appear to be working

Can the O2 sensor cause that much more fuel consumption?  What else should I
check?
