Gardenia White

In AD7-438 Michele Muller asks about Gardenia White.

Gardenia White was AR-107. The Ditzler code is 8382.

A finish list circulated to dealers by ARI in 1978, directing dealers to use
DuPont as their recommended paint supplier, gives a DuPont number of 8653LM
for lacquer, no code for enamel, which should be correct.

Critics will correctly say that these will not match the paint on a forty-year
old car and you must rely on a master painter to wing it by eyeball, but
Ditzler is the American arm of the parent company of Italver Pittsburgh Paints
SpA of Milan, Alfa's main paint supplier in days of yore, and it is a safe bet
that Ditzler 8382 is what you would have gotten if you had had the factory
repaint the car thirty years ago. Similarly, DuPont is the company which ARI
supplied "all pertinent technical data to" in 1978, so it is a safe bet that
DuPont 8653LM is what you would have gotten if you had had ARI repaint the car
thirty years ago.

It is undoubtedly true that Bertone's paint might have wandered from day to
day, but I would not be uncomfortable with Alfa's chosen sources.
