tony, thanks for the info on adapting a nissan heater control valve to your
gtwe6.
as i already have a gnu stock alfa heater valve, last nite, i tried to fabricate
some clips to hold valve ass'y together where the metal ring seems to be coming
up a little bit short. i found some j-clips at the local home depot, sized for
wall-mounting a 5/16" mirror. (?!?) i cut off the end of the clips so i now had
'c'-shaped clips. (one leg still slitely longer than the other, as one side of
the valve has more area than the other). the metal itself was about 1/16" thick
- - quite sturdy for the task at hand. i then adjusted the clips to fit snugly
over valve where it separates, tapping the clips on w/a hammer, then trying to
pull them back off. if i could pull the clips off, then i titened the clips up
a little bit more w/pliers, so i eventually could not remove any clips
w/reasonable force.
w/4 clips so installed around the circumference of the valve, i then got some of
that plumber's epoxy-putty, and formed a ring around the valve at the clips, to
ensure the clips don't work themselves loose. this stuff sets up hard as a
rock, those clips aren't going anywhere! in fact, the putty seems as tho it
mite hold the valve together w/o the clips. but, if i had (have?) to do it
again, i'd still use the clips... so, if this valve was in a leak-free state
when i got it, it should remain that way (i hope). it goes in later this week,
i'll keep ya posted...
ciao for now,
doug s.
