RE: 164 ext. temp backlight and paint
I have the same problem on my 91 164L I don't remember exactly how I got the
console out but It wasn't hard. Anyway I opened the console and replaced a
couple of bulbs that were out but the ext. temp
LED doesn't seem to have a bulb. (not that I could find) It seemed to me
that the backlight was built in to the LED. Anyone, correct me if I'm
wrong(I Hope I am) and I'll try again.
Question: I got a new handle for my drivers door, will a local high end body
shop be able to mix up the 91 164L black paint without any problems or do I
need to bring them any special data?
Thanks

Subject: 164 ext temp light access?
The backlighting for the external temp. readout is dead in my '91 164.
I looked thru the 164 FAQ and found what I thought would be simple
instructions to open the console and replace the bulb. I couldn't get
anything to budge, however. If I'm reading correctly, the padded strip
to the left of the AC console needs to be removed to allow access to a
couple of screws, then the whole face hinges open and bulbs can be
changed. I can't move the padded strip (tried sliding it down as per
FAQ directions) -- is there a trick, or do I just need to apply more
force? Do other pieces need to be removed first or something? I'm
puzzled, and don't want to break anything.
