Shankel electric fan kit for GTV

Has anyone had any experience with the Shankel electric fan kit sold by
ARRicambi? It supposedly mounts right on the radiator fins which some
say will "weaken" or damage the radiator long term. Any experience out
there on this? I would really like to avoid some dumb looking side
struts to mount this thing but don't want any trouble with it
