164 S idler pully fell off - overheated

During the last mile of my drive home yesterday, the BATT and ABS light came
on - "do I go for it", I asked ? I went for it. But it wasn't a broken belt
- - it was the idler pulley - it just fell off of the arm. Since I haven't
opened it up yet, I can't see what should have been keeping it on - some
collar and a bolt I guess.
Question #1 - Has this ever happened to anyone and do I order the whole arm
and pulley assembly ? or a bolt and collar and Lock Tite ?
As I pulled up the driveway the temperature needle was pretty high - I figure
it was high enough to have smoked the head gaskets on my old GTV 6. I hosed
down the sump as soon as I could - and once I got the hood open, I got the
heads as well. A minute after having stopped and hosed, the temperature was
reading midway.
Question # 2 - What might this brief overheating have done to my 164 and might
it not be evident right away ?
Thanks for any advise - I'll be driving the Verde this week.
