Fuel Pumps continues to run after ignition off

'84 Spider's main fuel pump continues to run afer ignition is turned
off.  Just started out of the blue, no work has recently been done.  I
have been pulling the negative ground at the battery to get it to stop. 
Put the cable back on the battery, pump stays off.

Reviewed a couple of manuals I got and did not find anything that
specifically addresses this situation.

Anybody been there, done that?
