Re: Specs for early '70s gt (grandfathering)



A good place to start would be the VARAC eligibility comittee person. They
probably already have so many Alfas vintage racing in Canada, they may have
a detailed list of eligible cars. If you like, I'll forward your message
to the vintage-race email list hoping to get a Canadian racer to point you
in the right direction.

The '74/75 GTV 2000 in Canada, would be essentially the same car as in '72,
so that car may be an easier sell in spite of being 3 years after the cutoff
date. The LSD rear end should have been standard. Mechanically, the whole
car should be identical to the '72 model.

The 1300 Junior may be a little tougher to deal with because of the engine
swap, unless VARAC simply doesn't bother with such things. The 1300 Junior
was cosmetically different from the 1750. There was also a 1600 GT Junior,
but AFAIK, there was never a 1750 GT Junior. The 1300 that went into the
Juniors was what's called a 105 series 1300 This is a bit different from
the earlier 101 series 1300s from the Giulietta series. The 105 1300 motors
were cosmetically a lot like the 1750s. The cars they went into were a bit
different. Remember, the Junior was supposed to be a stripped down version.

The USA never officially got any Juniors. The ones here now mostly came in 
through Canada. Did 2000s go the opposite route? There's a good question.

In Canada, carbs would have been standard on all of the above. Jetting 
would be different. Only the USA got Spica equipped cars, AFAIK. In Canada
at the time, I don't think Spica would have been listed as an option. Could
a Canadian order the US spec model? There's another question.
