GTA Sliding Block



Hi everybody,

We raced a GTA jr. injection untill recently and used the original sliding
block assembly.
The biggest advantage is the absolute location of the axle (it can really
only move vertically) which means that:
- -The rear is much quieter under hard braking (well, it is still tricky due
to the short wheelbase, but better)
- -Car is easier to drive in fast corners as the rear does not "steer" for
itself.
- -It eliminates the turning movement of the axle under hard acceleration
which is a result of the tremendous strength on the drivechain in a race car. 
- -The assembly allows the use of an undersite stabilisation-bar which
connects the left and rear axle arms.


Part of the complete assembly is an adjustable connection rod which is used
instead of the triangle above the axle. It allows to change the axle
position to the bottom of the car (in degrees not movement to front or
rear) this means you can experiment a bit with axle position for maximum
traction.


The use has some disadvantages:

- -The whole system is heavy (although casted in magnesium and alloy) about
20 Kg.
- -It puts a lot of strenght on the connection points (which have to be
strenghtened considerably)
- -You need a special (flat ass) rear axle which you do not find on every
corner.
- -To keep play to an absolute minimum you have to replace the slidingblock
rather often.
- -Because of the direct contact of a (copper) slidingblock and (steel)
liners it is very loud.
- -Finding one which does not cost it wheight in gold.
