     I'm new to the list and have enjoyed it thus far.  When I saw the 
     comments about raising gas prices to $4/gallon I felt compelled to 
     submit my opinion.  Simon, however, expressed most of my concerns 
     beautifully. Gas at $4/gallon would increase our gas bill to $580 a 
     month- definitely forcing my husband and myself off the road.  In San 
     Diego the transit system is far from ideal.  Also, to get to my 
     workplace by public transit I would have to go through some pretty 
     unsafe neighborhoods.  While the point of being environmentally 
     responsible was well taken, this would really be a punishment to those 
     without a lot of money.  It would make driving a luxury for the rich.  
     Driving in San Diego (especially at night) is a much safer alternative 
     to some routes of the public transit system.  Aren't we all entitled 
     to a little safety?
