You are right in suspecting the gasket, but you don't have to remove
the pump to replace it (they lie about it being easy to remove!). Just
undo all the allen bolts and the hoses on top of the pump. The old
gasket will slip over the top and the new one will slip back on. Be
aware that over tightening the bolts can warp the flange and cause
leaks. Also, while you're cramped up in the trunk, replace the fuel
level sender gasket at the same time, it is much easier to replace and
well worth the comfort of knowing that it is sealed prperly.
