RE: SUV hazards

Dana,
Bad as the vehicles may be, it is the drivers, and the infallible attitude
they get from driving their behemoths that is a greater concern. Today's WS
Journal has a hilarious front pager titled "SUV's getting the acid test in
Chicago's snowfall- The streets were littered as transmissions failed, axles
broke and batteries died."

A mountain of snow or a sheet of ice is not ideal for driving anything.

Happy to email the article off-line to anyone in need of a good laugh.

I won't consume bandwidth with a tirade against the trend in the US toward
using trucks as cars, but those who are interested may want to check out
this Web site:
http://ehpnet1.niehs.nih.gov/docs/1998/106-12/forum.html#safe. It seems
that a couple of government agencies are looking at this trend with
growning concern, particularly in light of the exemption of these vehicles
from some of the safety and emission regulations normal cars have to meet.
