Hard starting Milano

=00Scott Swanberg, your car may still have the spark-retard switch connected
which makes your car very hard to run after startup. The coolant
temperature sensor may be failing too. If you measure the resistance at -2=
F
should be about 10K ohms or higher. Looking at the thermostat housing if
you have a single spade connector on a sensor (switch) at 6 o'clock and the
wire is connected,CUT IT OFF!
The resistances for coolant temperature sensors run 7 to 12 K ohms 14=B0 F, 2
to 3 K ohms 68=B0F and 250 to 400 ohms at 176=B0F. All Bosch equipped cars
should start instantly in any temperature.

If you don't want to buy a new unit for some reason, simply add enough
resistance in series to make the unit read as above. For example, if the
outdoor temp is zero F and the resistance of the sensor is less than 7K
ohms, add a 1/4 watt resistor to make a total of 10K.
What I have done to test cold start problems is to solder a 1/4 watt 10 K
pot to a male Bosch connector and plug it into the circuit in place of the
coolant temperature sensor. I then set the resistance to approx the
required amount for the ambient temperature. Start the engine and
immediately adjust the pot for smoothest running. Stop the engine and
measure the resistance which will tell me what the sensor should be for tha=
t
temp. A new one should read about the same. Hope y'all understand, if not
buzz me for a clearer picture. Fred Di Matteo
