SCARY DRIVING

Since I spend a good deal of time on the track and I have a neat mountain
road to drive every day, I practice every day, taking curves ("bends" on
the wrong side of the pond) "correctly". This means shaving it close at
the apex, using all the road (at least my half of it) and paying attention.

In scaring a poor girl half to death I discovered a god-awful bad
technique I was using. I was ignoring the white line painted on the right
side (at least in California) of the road, and coming as close to the
edge of pavement as I thought possible. (This sometimes put the body of
the car inches away from the high road bank next to it.)

THE WHITE LINE DEFINES THE EDGE OF ALLOWABLE CAR POSITION!!! Don't forget
it! I damn near killed her, as she was wolking (properly facing traffic)
in the "safe" part of the road, and my apex hugging technique put me
there also--at 70 mph.

I have since noticed many other drivers doing the same white line
crossing, and am also having a hard time curing myself of the habit.

Oh, yes---I was in my 164 (required Alfa content)
