There was some discussion about the use of block heaters, pro and con. Fred
di Matteo thinks thin oil and a spunky battery should do the trick, else the
engineers at the factory would have made provision for a block heater. Digest
Eskimos disagreed. Perhaps the factory is trying to tell you something up
north -- if it gets to -20F, -50F YOU SHOULDN'T THINK OF LIVING THERE! You
can't sit out at a cafe with an espresso, you can't grow olives or grapes, who
knows if you can even ski -- does air become a solid at those temps?

If all else fails, try whale oil, known to work in the cold.

Steve Morgan inquired about 3M Hard Glaze. When I had the GTV6 painted a
couple of years ago, I picked a paint that was a one-stage (no clearcoat)
because I think the 2 stage stuff is too hard/costly to maintain. When I
picked up the car I asked of course how long I should wait to wax it and what
wax the painter suggested. He told me NEVER to wax it, but to use Hand Glaze,
which I picked up at an auto paint supply shop. It's quite easy to use (as
easy as wax, anyhow), works great on both the fresh one stage and on the aging
2 stage on the Milano, too. Someone said it doesn't last long, but in Los
Angeles conditions it lasts about as long as wax, IOW about 6 months or so.

Happy and safe holidays to all.

And to those in the frozen north -wear plenty of mittens and things when you
go out to crank your cars in -70F weather. 'Twere me, I would stay home or
move closer to the Equator.

Here, we are enjoying frigid temps to 29F (that's +29F) at night and 50ish in
the day... and the 75 is busy having its kinked heater knob control cable
ironed out so my BW will not freeze her best parts on the way to work.

Both with heaters that work like blast furnaces when needed
