Cold Killed Milano Resurrected

The Milano lives again. I was told that the injection system used on the
Milano (and also some BMWs) is very sensitive to flooding if it doesn't start
right away. I was trying to start the car for three days without success,
throughly wetting the plugs. Also, every time I turned the car off and tried
again to start it, the cold start injector would squirt more fuel into the
intake. Eventually, enough raw gas built up to fill all the ridges in the
corrugated hose connecting the air filter assembly to the plenum. This caused
the gas to dump out onto the top of my air filter assembly when I turned the
car over (not literally, I'm not that strong).

To remedy the problem and keep from draining another battery, I hooked the
battery up to my running car and unplugged the cold start injector and pinched
off the fuel supply. I found that the correct procedure to start an Alfa V6
of this vintage is to hold the gas pedal to the floor and not pump it. It
took me a while, but I finally dried the plugs and after several stalls, it
would idle on its own.

It was a rude initiation to running this car in the cold, but it gave me an
opportunity to miss work that I wouldn't have done otherwise and get the last
of my holiday shopping done. Its supposed to get down to 10 or 15 below 0F
tonight, so hopefully the car will start in the morning.
