atmospheric conditions?

Just got home from work a while ago. It was cold (probably down in the high
40's) and clear out tonight. Must have been the ideal conditions or
something cause the old Alfetta just seemed to run a lot sweeter and have a
lot more power than usual.

I can see how the atmospheric conditions can influence the engine
performance but how come the ride is smoother and most of the creaks and
rattles have disappeared as well?
