Re: alfa-digest V7 #322 Bill Bain's CO & the MAARC Event...

Bill,
The first thing to do is to unscrew the idle air bypass (under the
aluminum circular plug on the top of the air flow meter) while the CO
probe is upstream of the converter. Those who are lazier can just test
at the tailpipe. By unscrewing (counterclockwise) the allen or straight
blade plug, you are causing less deflection of the air door, hence less
potentiometer value, less fuel injector opening interval, less CO. If
the exhaust values are unresponsive, the air door may be stuck (get a
rebuilt AFM from BRET Instruments) or check the water temp FI sender for
out of value spec or corrosion on the multi-pin connector. The low HC
indicates no fundamental problem. The Savannah track event of the Mid
Atlantic Alfa Romeo Club will be on March 20-21, 1999. More info as soon
as it is available on the MAARC Web page...-Peter Krause
