Bob, regarding your newly acquired coolant leak corresponding to the cold:  
Check the block to cyl. head interface as the car is warming up from cold.  
Peer under the exhaust manifold as well as the intake manifold.  If not 
there, check the mounting boss for the thermostatic actuator, where it enters 
the cylinder head.
