adjusting inboard rear calipers

Greetings all!

A subtle question this time. When adjusting the pad clearance for inboard
rear calipers. What should be done with the parking brake? I mean, should
the cable be not just released, but also slacked off all the way before
making the adjustments? Does that mean that when you re-adjust the parking
brake for proper travel (4-6 clicks) that it changes the initial clearance
setting?

It seems that whenever I adjust the pad clearance back to spec, I have to
tighten down the the parking brake cable considerably (from the previous
setting) to bring it back into useful range. Or am I just not setting the
pad clearance snug enough to start with?

I set them yesterday at .004". Perhaps I need to start at .002"?

Just installed new rear rotors. It's such a joy not to have the car shudder
violently every time I stand on the brakes :~)

                    Thanks;
