RE: Speeds in gears (was CAMS)



As a couple of people have already pointed out, there seemed to be some
confusion in the original post asking what could be wrong with the engine
of the spider that can't go faster than 100 mph at 5500 RPM.  

The speed of a car at any fixed RPM is determined entirely by gearing and
tire sizes.  Engine performance has nothing to do with it.  Assuming the
spider in question has roughly stock-size tires and the 4.55 rear end, 5500
RPM should be good for about 110 mph.  

Engine design and performance do, however, determine the maximum RPM the
engine is capable of and (with other parameters) affect how quickly it gets
there.
