emergency flasher

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove the emergency flasher 
unit from the dash?  The instructions were great on how to fix it once 
out, but I'm afraid of cracking the dashboard by prying off the black 
"cap" that is over it and flush with the dash.  Thanks.
