I had a similar problem. The straps are often available from wreckers but
without the rubber coating which is tapered and notched to hold the door
open. I have straps on my car with no rubber with a small nut and bolt
though them to prevent the door opening too far.

My wifes car 97 Toyota Vienta/Camry (Widebody! not the brand new shape) uses
a similar system and I am sourcing some at the moment to see if they can be
made to fit. Email me if you want more info.
