F14 vs F15 landing gear



Well here is my guess on the differences in landing gear configuration.

The ideal configuration is folding forward so in the event of an hydraulic
failure the gear can be forced out with a hard pull up and the slip stream
will then force the gear back into the down position.  The F14 nose gear
connects to the catapult and is inherently stronger if it locks going
forward.
