Jeff,
Try tightening the tension screw.  It takes a very thin, fairly wide blade
screw driver and you must hold the strange nut with a very small pair of
needle nose.   This procedure assumes that the post is still secure in the
other end of the pivot mount.  If the post is  turning in the mount, get a
5/64" roll pin, drill an appropriate sized hole though the pivot mount and
shaft, and install the roll pin.  You should cut the roll pin off flush with
the mount.  Make sure that you drill through the shaft and mount.  I have
used this repair with great success on my personal as well as many customer
cars.
