need quick response subject: water pump

Hey you guys,
I know I have been a digest-lurker for the last couple of months, but I have
been very busy. I just graduated and have started to "work". No more
sleeping till 3 pm (student life is over)

Anyways, I would like someone to explain me in as much detail as possible
what happens to a car when its water pump fails. Consequences for the
engine? Sounds? etc....
